Description
Maasai Rungu Throwing Club — East African Warrior’s Weapon
The Maasai Rungu is one of East Africa’s most iconic weapons — a ceremonial and functional throwing club carried by Maasai warriors (Moran) throughout Kenya and Northern Tanzania. Symbolising authority, courage, and adulthood, the rungu was an essential companion to every warrior.
Hand-carved from a single piece of hardwood, this piece features the classic rounded striking head and long tapered shaft, creating a naturally balanced and sculptural form. Its patina and wear reflect genuine use and age.
Traditionally, the rungu was used for:
-
Throwing and defence against predators
-
Close combat protection
-
Ceremonial authority, held by elders and leaders
-
Symbolic status, signalling strength and identity
Displayed on a stand, mounted in a niche, or styled as a sculptural object, the rungu introduces a powerful cultural presence into any interior.
NOTE: Display stand shown in images is for styling purposes only and is not included with this item.
