Description

Nupe Carved Stool Set – Authentic West African Hardwood Originals (Pair)

This exceptional set of authentic Nupe stools represents one of West Africa’s most recognisable and culturally significant carving traditions. Each stool is carved from a single, solid block of dense hardwood and displays all the hallmarks of genuine Nupe craftsmanship: deep recessed underside (approx. 20cm), multi-leg construction, hand-tooled sunburst motifs and gently concave tops shaped through traditional methods.

These are not modern replicas or lightweight decorative pieces — they are older originals, showing natural age cracks, patina, surface wear and chisel marks. Their substantial weight and dense timber indicate slow-grown hardwood typical of earlier Nupe carving.

Styled together, the two stools form a refined sculptural pairing with complementary proportions. The tall stool (approx. 50cm) and wider stool (approx. 47cm) bring warmth and visual rhythm to any contemporary interior, and are ideal as side tables, display pedestals, plant stands or statement gallery pieces.

Sourced through Accra, Ghana — a historic trade route for Nigerian Nupe carvings — this set is a true collector’s acquisition and a rare opportunity to own two matched originals.

COLLECTOR’S NOTES

Older Nupe originals are increasingly scarce, especially in larger sizes.
• Deep underside carving and concave tops indicate authentic age and handwork.
• Dense hardwood construction = genuine traditional material, not export timber.
• Sets of Nupe stools are highly sought after by interior designers.
• The value of authentic African tribal furniture continues to climb globally.

This pair is priced appropriately for its authenticity, condition and rarity.
