Description
Safi Scrollwork Artisan Bowl – 30cm
THE OBJECT
This 30cm Safi Scrollwork Artisan Bowl is a vibrant and sculptural example of Moroccan coastal ceramic design. Hand-thrown, hand-glazed, and hand-painted in Safi, it features a four-petal rosette at the centre, framed by layered turquoise scrollwork and almond-shaped protective motifs. The colours—turquoise, navy, gold, red, and ivory—create a joyful yet balanced composition inspired by Amazigh design language and the coastal palette of Safi. With its deeper 12–13cm profile, the bowl has strong sculptural presence. It carries both decorative weight and architectural rhythm, making it an impactful piece on shelving, consoles, dining tables, or hung as wall art.

CRAFTSMANSHIP
Safi ceramics are known for expressive patterns, coastal colour combinations, and fluid hand-painted linework. This bowl’s scrollwork layout is an advanced Amazigh-influenced motif requiring careful control to maintain symmetry across the curved surface. Each colour is applied by hand in stages, with precise spacing and clean brush transitions. The bowl’s depth makes it a technically demanding form to throw and fire, as deeper shapes risk distortion and glaze pooling. The clean curvature, crisp linework, and even glaze confirm the work of an experienced Safi artisan rather than mass-market production.
PRESENCE
With its bold turquoise rim, contrasting interior colours, and sculptural depth, this bowl carries strong visual presence. It adds movement, brightness, and cultural identity to interiors, whether styled flat, angled upright, or mounted on the wall. The combination of turquoise, ivory, navy, and warm gold makes it versatile in coastal, Mediterranean, modern, and Moroccan-inspired spaces. Its depth creates natural shadows that enrich the rosette and scroll motifs.
RARITY
Although Safi pottery is widely recognised, bowls of this 30cm diameter paired with a deep 12–13cm form are considerably less common. The multi-layered scrollwork and multicolour rosette require advanced brush control, and the deeper profile increases the risk of distortion during firing, resulting in fewer successfully completed pieces. As a one-of-one artisan-made bowl sourced directly from Safi studios rather than commercial export channels, it represents a higher tier of contemporary Moroccan ceramic craftsmanship.
PROVENANCE
Handcrafted in Safi, Morocco, and sourced directly by Tribal Village. Selected for its balanced composition, vibrant palette, clean scrollwork, and excellent curvature. A strong example of modern Safi ceramic artistry, rooted in coastal Amazigh design heritage.
