Amani Soft Wave is a rare sculptural example of this tradition. Rising to an impressive 70 cm in height, the basket’s flowing bands of colour move across the surface in gentle undulating waves, giving the piece both its name and its quiet sense of movement.
Each basket begins as bundles of elephant grass harvested and dried in northern Ghana. Skilled artisans then weave the grass strand by strand, shaping the form entirely by hand. No moulds or templates are used. The silhouette gradually emerges through the rhythm of the weave, guided by experience and intuition.
